Taste Test: Cream Cheese Danish

Dear Readers,

It has been a lovely cold winter here. I love winter...the snow, the cold, the wind. I can imagine spending time in a remote cabin, stoking the fire and drinking tea waiting for the blizzard to stop.

So, I did a taste test of cream cheese danish. One is from a well known family owner bakery, the other from Woodman's grocery. I was surprised with the outcome.

Steak STEAK!

Dear Readers,

I found a sale at our local grocery store for sirloin steaks. I could not resist them. They were lovely cuts of meat, seemed like I had to make a special meal just for my husband.

The menu: Steak, baked potato, green pea salad, broccoli salad and a wonderful de-glaze sauce!

First i marinated the steak with salt, garlic and pepper and added soy sauce on top. I put it in the refrigerator for around 6 hours.

In the mean time, I made the green pea salad, baked the potatoes and put together the broccoli salad.

Then, the real fun of cooking the steak! Three minutes on the first side (fried in butter) and 2 1/2 on the second and it was perfect.

After that came the de-glaze. I added some tomato sauce to the pan and worked up the tasty bits. Then added around 1/2 cup of Chardonnay to the pan. The smell was wonderful!

I had some sauteed two onions and two bell peppers that I made just before the steak, so I added a bit to the sauce. It was the meal of all meals.

Here are the photos......

2014 Cooking List

Dear readers,

I do not make resolutions. If I want to change something, then I do. Simple. Anyway, I do however think of things that I would like to make for the upcoming year. Recipes are so wonderful, interesting and just plain fun.

Here is my 2014 list of things to cook :)

Steamed Pudding
Cannelloni
Tres Leches Cake
Rye Bread
Homemade Rolls
Layered Cake --chocolate or spice??
Homemade Cheese
Homemade Yogurt
Tacos: spy, refried beans with seasoning
Try a New Salad

Some of the things are so plain and simple, like the tacos. However, it almost never occurs to me to make them. So, I added them to the list for the year 2014. I have been reading the Cooks Country Cookbook and it is so wonderful.

Happy New Year to you all!

Thanksgiving Food and Fun!

Dear Readers,

It has been awhile....I have been busy as a mom and professional working full time. Like most women. But it is great with all of the modern appliances and things to help out. So easy!

Anyway....Here are some pics from thanksgiving :)

So you can we had such a great time that I did not have time to take a lot of pictures. The menu this year was turkey, stuffing (sausage potato), steamed veggies, homemade rolls, gravy, mashed potatoes and cherry juice. WE watched football and commented on the game. Then we ate pumpkin and apple pie with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. What a nice day.
